The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has started enforcement action against several organisations for failing to pay the new data protection fees. The enforcement action could result in fines ranging from £400 to £4350.

Subject to certain limited exemptions, all businesses and organisations which process personal data must pay a fee to the ICO.

For those who process personal data but were not registered with the ICO under the pre-25 May 2018 regime, the fee should have been paid from that date.

For those who did register under the old regime, the fee is due form the date when that registration would have fallen to be renewed.
